Dr. Tomas Casas i Klett

Director China Competence Center (CCC) | Founding Director and CCTT Affiliate

Dr. Tomas Casas i Klett holds degrees from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania, Fudan University in Shanghai, and the University of St. Gallen. After his PhD, he joined the University of St. Gallen as an Assistant Professor at the Research Institute for International Management (FIM-HSG) where he co-founded the CCTT and today acts as a director of the CCC. As a permanent faculty at the University, at the CCC he leads core academic projects like the Sino-Swiss Free Trade Agreement (FTA) Academic Evaluation Reports or the annual Swiss Business in China Survey. At the CCTT, though not operatively involved anymore, Tomas still acts as an important advisor.

Tomas’ gathered international experience in Japan and China for over 15 years which he uses to study, create, and support unique executive education content. His practice insights inform his innovative research, including his work on elites and on sustainable value creation.

Alexander Tonn

Research Assistant and PhD Student

Alexander Tonn is a fourth-year PhD student in Political Economy and International Business under the main supervision of Guido Cozzi (Economics; HSG). His interdisciplinary research and policy interests range from the Elite Quality Index (where he is the programme and data manager), FDI and Africa, and China's political economy, including Sino-Swiss trade analysis. He spent the autumn semester of 2023 in Shanghai at a local university and was also selected for the Doctoral Academy of the Academy of International Business (AIB-CIBER DA) during this time. Before embarking on his PhD journey, he worked as an economic policy advisor at the German Parliament in Berlin. He will support the executive education programmes of the China Competence Center.
