Established in 2013, the Research Institute for International Management (FIM) is a leading institute dedicated to providing cutting-edge research, project work, and educational programs that address the complex challenges of today's business world. FIM operates through six Competence Centres, each utilizing different approaches and sources of funding to provide research and project work in various fields.
Over the years, FIM has expanded its activities significantly, with the Competence Center for Diversity and Inclusion becoming the single biggest centre at FIM. The centre provides sophisticated research and consulting services on diversity and inclusion-related career and leadership features, salary analyses, HR process analyses, and organizational culture analyses. The centre has conducted studies for well-known Swiss companies from the public and private sector and NGOs on measures to increase the share of female senior leaders.
The China Competence Center has also been instrumental in supporting the visit of Chinese diplomats and trade delegations to the region, while the Sino-Swiss Competence Center, created in 2016, has extended the portfolio of Asia-related activities. In 2018, FIM presented the First Sino-Swiss Free Trade Agreement (FTA) Academic Evaluation Report in the presence of the President of the Swiss Federation and other officials.
FIM has been actively contributing to the international research community, publishing papers in many leading journal papers, scholarly and practitioner papers, and chapters. FIM staff members have published papers in some leading refereed journals, including the Journal of Management Studies, Journal of Business Research, and Leadership Quarterly. The institute has also received nominations for the best reviewer and best paper awards, with two members of the FIM being finalists for the Louis Pondy Best Paper Award.
FIM has a distinguished faculty, with Prof. Dr. Dimitrios Georgakakis being awarded the prestigious Latsis award for the best young scholar at the University of St. Gallen in 2018. In 2022, Jamie Gloor received the same honor. Gudrun Sander has been consistently recognized as one of Switzerland’s TOP 100 Women in Business.
